Fred Fox visits St. James Catholic School
Staff and students at St. James Catholic School were privileged to host a very special guest! We had the opportunity to meet Terry Fox’s older brother Fred Fox and hear genuine stories about life with Terry.
He took students from FDK to grade 8 on a slideshow trip along memory lane, showing them photos of himself, his brother Terry and their family. Mr. Fox explained that they were a family of modest means and Terry and his siblings learned to work hard toward their goals. Their parents taught them the importance of always completing what they start and try their best. Terry lived by this philosophy and, although he saw himself as average in many ways, his extraordinary determination proved that he was anything but.
Fred Fox’s presentation was moving and his message to us was clear: “Always set goals, work hard and never give up on your dreams”. These are traits we try to instill in our students every day.
Mr. Fox also wanted to thank the school personally for their incredible fundraising for the Terry Fox Foundation through their annual “Toonies for Terry” over the past years. He presented the principal, Mrs. Soehner, with an autographed copy of “Terry” for the school’s library. Mr. Fox also took the time to sign autographs for students and took a few pictures with staff members and students.
During this very special assembly to kick off our Daffodil week, Mr. Fox was presented with a St. James bear thanking him for his visit. St. James staff and students will continue to participate in their annual “Toonies for Terry” run and to raise money in Terry’s name.
