St. James School Students Celebrate Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week with Friendship Bracelet Activity 🌈

St. James School recently participated in Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week with a meaningful and creative activity designed to promote kindness and friendship. Student council members led classes in a friendship bracelet-making initiative, where students crafted bracelets inscribed with words of kindness and love.

The bracelets, made with care, were either kept as a reminder of the importance of kindness or shared with friends to spread positive messages throughout the school community. This initiative highlights the school’s commitment to fostering a culture of respect, empathy, and inclusivity.

“As we mark Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week, we are reminded of the power of kindness in creating an environment where all students feel valued,” said Jody O’Daiskey, Principal of St. James School. “These small acts of kindness, like sharing a bracelet with a friend, contribute to a larger culture of respect that we strive to nurture every day.”

St. James School encourages students to continue spreading kindness and positivity beyond the classroom, embodying the spirit of unity and compassion that is at the heart of the Sudbury Catholic Schools community.

St. James Donates Cookies to the Sudbury Food Bank 🍪

Mme Gabriella and Mme Kayla’s students sweetened the holiday season by donating cookies to the Sudbury Food Bank. The cookies, which were creatively designed as melted snowmen charmed everyone who attended.

Thanks to the hard work and creativity of the students, the cookies raised a total of $110, which will go directly to helping families and individuals who are facing food insecurity. With the impressive buying power of $1 equaling $6, the funds raised will be able to provide much-needed support, potentially offering up to $660 worth of food to the local community.

Mme Gabriella, students and the Sudbury Food Bank would also like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Amanda Aitchison, whose generous donation helped families in need. Her contribution played a key role in amplifying the impact of this initiative, allowing the group to make an even greater difference.

The cookies were donated back to the school, where students had the chance to enjoy them while supporting a great cause.

St. James Native-as-a-Second-Language (NSL) Program Participates in Atikameksheng Veterans Ceremony 💬

On November 8th, the St. James Native-as-a-Second-Language (NSL) Program had the honour of participating in the Atikameksheng Veterans Ceremony. During the ceremony, students proudly sang the National Anthem in both Anishnawbemowin and English, paying tribute to the sacrifices made by veterans and showing respect for the cultural heritage of the community.

The event provided a meaningful opportunity for students to learn more about the significance of Remembrance Day and the importance of acknowledging the contributions of those who served in times of war. In addition to the performance, students were gifted with a special lesson on the proper salute and its critical role during wartime, deepening their understanding of respect and honour in times of conflict.
